Design Philosophy
I believe that communication with the client at all stages of the design process is of prime importance.

I place a strong emphasis in my designs, on building links between house and garden - in terms of architecture and materials. The way in which the garden will be used also forms the basis of a design.

At an early stage of the design a theme often emerges - sometimes as a response to the site or an idea which emerges during the discussion with the client. In addition there is often a key feature within the garden, which leads the design.

Consideration of the surrounding area is important to ensure that the garden ‘belongs’ to its situation. There is always the possibility of using local materials and vegetation gives strong clues about what plants would grow well.

I believe that my style would be best described as relying on a strong well-defined structure, softened by planting. In my spare time I produce sculptures in clay. I have found that my work in three dimensions in clay has enriched the way I approach my design work.
